Ghost Ship

I have salt water in my veins. No, really, Internet, I do. A few days ago, my Mom texted (she's such a techie) me the picture shown above, in today's post. It's the fishing boat that my Nanu Giovanni, my Mother's father, was fishing on the night it sunk, never to return home again, just before my Mother's 17th birthday.

It's a sad and tragic story for my family.

My Nanu's body didn't come to shore right away either, so my family kept up hope, until his body did, finally, wash a shore about a week later. Not completely intact, either.

Consequently, years later, when I was surfing, there was a fisherman lost at sea. I would be surfing, and his family would regularly visit the beach, looking for him. It was surreal. I lived my family trauma through theirs. But his body took longer to turn up, around a month or so, and I'm happy to say I wasn't the one who found him.

When his body was finally found, I could see the family was relieved to have closure, and very saddened at the same time. Much like my family must have been when they finally found my Nanu's empty shell.

That's some intense family history. I never knew my Nanu, but I am strongly connected to him through the sea. And I know he watches over me when I'm on the water, so don't worry, Mom.

However, I also think there's a connection between my Nanu and my youngest son, hence the nickname, "Gio." Whether, it's my Nanu reincarnated, or he's just one of Gio's guardian angels, doesn't really matter much to me.

It isn't just because they're both buglers, or that Gio would drink black coffee and wine if we let him. There just seems to be a little old man, stuck in my little boy's body, with some of the things that come out of his mouth.

Like the time, when he was around two-years-old and said, "I drowned in a boat!"

Yeah, that sort of sealed the deal for me. There's definitely something other-worldly going on here.

Praying for Layla Grace

Layla, face of an angel.

One of the great things about Twitter, is it's a place where anyone can count on prayers from their community, whenever prayers are needed. I found @LaylaGrace through one of my twitter friend's prayer for Layla. And I've been praying for her ever since.

She is only two years old, and stricken with cancer. She is basically only receiving hospice care, to keep her comfortable.

Yes, Layla's story is sad, tragic, but it's also very inspiring, for me.

Every time one of her parents tweets anything regarding Layla, whether it's excitement over a bowel movement or how peaceful she is while she's sleeping, or asking for prayer, I'm reminded of what's important in life.

LOVE.

I am so grateful to her family, for having the courage to share their journey with the world. I'm not sure I could do the same.

Though my kids are healthy, thank goodness, it is easy to forget how precious they are, sometimes. But when I forget, Layla is there to remind me. And we never know how long we have with anybody here on Earth, do we? There are no guarantees in this life......

Anyways, I'm asking you to help however you can. With prayer, reading her blog, or by joining the boutique Layla Grayce's facebook fan page. For every fan that joins the boutique's facebook fan page, one dollar is donated to Layla's medical care. (Customer's of the boutique, which has a similar name to Layla, urged the store to get involved in Layla's cause, and they did!)

Amen and God Bless. 0:-)

Salt Water In Me Veins

Tweet This

I love pictures of boats they remind me of my salt water heritage. My Mother's Father, whom I never knew, was a fisherman. Everytime I paddle for a surf, I know he's there with me, watching over me. And trust me, in the Ocean, there's no such thing as having too many guardian angels.

Angels Are Real

Tweet This
Life is precious. And it can change on a dime. It's easy to take life, and all the characters in it, for granted.

"When I Look To The Sky," by Train reminds me of all my beloved family and friends who have passed on to another realm. Though they may not be available on an Earthly plain, I know somehow they are around guiding me through my existence on this crazy Planet.

Without angelic guidance, I'd be a lost little space cadet, because Brother I'm from Another Planet. And humans are very strange, compared to where I come from. Everything is so complicated here.

I'm a firm believer in Angels because of my life experiences. I pay attention to my angels, mainly because when I ignore them, life is so much harder for me. So I suppose I listen out of convenience. Listening take trust, because the messages are never logical, and often come before the rest of the story shows up.

Angels are always talking to all of us, not just me. I don't have special little angel ears. However, my main focus everyday is staying in the moment (through breathing), and I have noticed when I'm in the moment those angelic voices are much louder, and their signs are clearer, than when I'm caught up in the past or future.

Anyways, this song is just a reminder to listen to your angels, y'all. And to remember each and every one of is an Angel waiting to take flight.
