Carmel Valley, California

Tweet This

We went to our friends' Housewarming party today, way, way out in Carmel Valley.

"Is this the wilderness?" asks Gio.

"Pretty much, " says Hubby.

"This is no place to live," says Gio.

"What do you mean, it's a great place to live!" says Hubby.

"Who wants to get killed by a bear," explains Gio.

While Gio may be afraid of being eaten by a bear, he has no fear of snakes, "Can I see the cobra again?"

"It's not a Cobra," says my BFF. "It's a King snake."

But after awhile my BFF, who's an AWESOME Veterinarian, gave up correcting him, "Sure, let's get the Cobra."

Gio has a way of wearing people down.

"Time to go," says Hubby.

"I don't want to go," says Vinny. "There's snakes, lizards, a swing, and darts!"

Though I kept my distance from any and all reptiles, it was a really fun day. Our friends have an awesome new house. The snakes seem to like it, too. And don't get me started on the Monitor Lizard, Floyd, a rescue, he was like a scaly, 10 pound, cuddly cat.

By the way, most of my BFF's reptiles are rescues. I am blessed with awesome friends.

Friends

This was Gio's last get together with his buddy C, before C moved to the other side of the country.

Now all I hear is, "I'm never going to see C, again," AND "Let's move to where C lives now."

Sadly, I knew C wasn't going to be around long, when we made friends with him and his sweet family. And I'll admit for a split second my Abandonement issues spoke out against forming a bond with these gypsies, but I calmed the voice.

"Don't worry lots of people have left us before and we've been okay," I say soothingly.

I continued on with, "besides, we never no know how long we have with anyone, even if they never plan on moving, our paths may only intersect for a short time, or for intermittent periods through out our lives."

And then I sealed the deal with that nagging voice in my head, "but a friend, no matter whether they are near or far physically, is someone who is always close to our hearts."

And it hurts to hear my son long for the company of his friend, so I had to come up with a solution, one we need to at least try: Skype, video conferencing via the Internet.

Happiness is Contagious So Take Off Your Clothes

Tweet This

There was an article published in Friday's New York Times about how if your friends' friends are happy they can affect you in a happy, positive way. Click the link above if you need all the data to believe happiness spreads like wildfire from person to person.

I didn't need a study to know that. In fact, lately I've been noticing when people smile at me, in say the grocery store, I get this warm, happy, fuzzy feeling inside. True, sometimes it's because I just wet my pants, another lovely side effect of natural childbirth, but not always. How do you spell K-E-G-E-L-S?

Lately, I've been surfing with my SFF (surfing friend forever) and she's all smiles and happiness out in a line up full of grumpy, grouchy, stink eye surfers. I've noticed her smiles and our laughter having an impact on the surfing line up, even if it's a confused, "what's so funny? I don't get it?" kind of impact. Which usually makes us laugh more. Then, their stink eyes magically transform into smiles and they start laughing with us, even though they don't quite know what they are laughing at.

And we are so nice we often let the guys think we are talking secretly about them. Of course, sometimes we actually are talking about them. Like, when Not Smith paddles out. Smith is Samantha's boyfriend from Sex in the City(these are not real people), and there's a guy that surfs who looks just like Smith, so we call him Not Smith because he looks like Smith, but he isn't. I don't think he is, anyways?

Smith even shaved his head when Samantha got cancer. But unfortunately, Samantha couldn't deal with the side effects of monogamy and she let him go. Poor Smith.

This Photo is for those people who
don't know who Smith is. Now you do.

One day after my friend paddled in to go to work one surfer dude commented, "wow your friend sure is happy!"

"I know that's why I love surfing with her," I say. Even when she's frozen as a Popsicle and can no longer feel her feet, she's still smiling and laughing."

"Angel"

Tweet This
"Angel," by Sarah Mclachlan, is one of my all time favorite angel songs. When I listen to this song I imagine my angels' wings are wrapped around me like a warm cozy blanket of unconditional love. I make Angel Mixes on my, not an ipod, mp3 player. For the record, an ipod is an mp3 player. Ah, the wonders of marketing.

Well, I used to make Angel Mixes until my nai mp3 player started malfunctioning in the remembering department. Don't feel sorry for me, I dropped it in a deep puddle of toxic rainwater, while hurriedly getting my surfboard out of the car. And it actually worked fine for a few years (Thanks Stefan!), but now it's having memory issues.

Besides it's giant! "That is the biggest mp3 players in the entire world!"one of it's observers noted. It is almost the same size as my very first Sony Walkman. I affectionately refer to it as "my walkman." Some of my friends think that is funny and are probably laughing, right now. "Ha,ha." Did anyone else hear that?

Big and Small.

I will get a new mp3 player when I decide on the right one for me, but I have a hard time making up mind when I have too much information. I also have a tiny Sansa Clip 4 GB player that "clips" onto my clothing. I absolutely love the clip, and it also isn't an ipod. I can't figure out how to make playlists on it, even though some people think of me as a techie, I'm unfortunately not. Maybe if it were an ipod I could figure out how to make playlists because everyone tells me, "They are so easy to use."

The only criteria for a song to make an Angel mix is, the song must have a positive, inspiring message. If anyone would like to list their top 1-5 Angel songs in the comment section, I might get inspired to get a new mp3 player to make more angel mixes.

Then maybe I will put the playlists on the blog. I think there is a way to do that, right, someone, please help? I may not be a true techie, but I am smart enough to surround myself with people who are tech savvy. Enjoy.
