Juggling

Yes, Internet I married a juggling man. Wait. That might be a bad thing, now that I think about it. Oh well, his aura is a nice shade of yellow as he juggles fruits of orange and green.

Lights Out!

Tweet This

Tonight beginning at 10 p.m. until 6:30 a.m. tomorrow our power is going to be out due to a scheduled maintenance by PG&E, the power company.

We are running around like cats on catnip, or turkeys on tequila, making breakfast, trying to get lunches packed, placing clothes with their respective socks and underwear, washing dishes, and staring at the dishwasher.

"How long does this dishwasher take anyways?" asks Hubby. "And where are all the flashlights?" asks Hubby.

The man is seriously fretting over the dishwasher stopping mid cycle. Me, not so much. But if the dishwasher loses power mid-cycle tonight, I will scream tomorrow.

"Don't you have a flashlight app on your phone?" I ask.

"Yeah!" says Hubby having a light bulb moment.

"Wait, cancel that," I say, bursting his bubble. "Better save your phone battery and find a real flashlight."

"Oh yeah," says Hubby, continuing his fruitless search.

"You have 50 flashlights, surely you can find one," I encourage, as Hubby heads into the garage.

Internet, can you keep a secret? I do know where there is one flashlight, but I don't want to tell Hubby because it will disappear into the flashlight black hole.

Don't judge me. I'm an only child and it's my special Sugarland flashlight. When I turn on my Sugarland flashlight, Jennifer and Kristian are projected on to my carpet or wall, and they sing whatever song I request.

Not really. But still, it's very special to me.

Ten minutes later.

"I know I have a flashlight somewhere," says Hubby, looking a little sweaty.

"Did you look in Gio's bins?" I ask. "He's probably got them stashed somewhere."

But instead of heading to the toy room, Hubby heads back into the garage.

15 Minutes later.

"I can't find a single flashlight," says Hubby sounding winded, from the garage.

"Okay, fine, I know where there's one, but I don't really want to tell you," I say, not giving up any information.

But I don't think he hears me. Either that, or he remembers I'm an only child and decides it's not worth it because five minutes later he says, "I can't find a flashlight."

Tired of hearing about flashlights I shout out into the garage, "there's a flashlight in the ashtray of my car!"

I'm certain he doesn't hear me though. Then I realize all this time he's been "looking for a flashlight," in the "garage" he's really been outside riding his skateboard.

I know this because about two minutes later Hubby comes into the house and says, "I found a flashlight, and I love that new skateboard," all in the same sentence.

Phew. My Sugarland flashlight is safe for now, but I'm going to have to find a new hiding place in case Hubby's sub-conscious was listening, after all.

Anyways, it's nearly lights out, and I must say I prefer unplanned power outages. They're a lot less worry, work and not to mention, preparation.

Six minutes until 10 o'clock and the dishwasher is still whirring in the background.....................

Potato Bug

Tweet This
"Honey, come quick, there's a giant bug in the garage!" I shout.

"What is it?" asks Hubby.

"Big!" I say.

"How big?" asks Hubby.

"Giant!" I say.

"Is it bigger than your thumb?" asks Hubby.

"Yeah!" I say.

"Is it a mouse?" asks Hubby.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm......maybe it isn't bigger than my thumb.

"It's just a potato bug," says Hubby picking up the scampering cricket. "What's the big deal? I used to play with them all the time when I was a kid."

Hello, I never played with bugs. But it was clear Hubby did from the way he used his hands as a bug treadmill to keep the bug from escaping his clutches.

Of course, after Hubby put the bug outside, he had to google potato bug, aka Jerusalem Cricket, which are "sometimes known to bite."

"You're lucky he didn't bite you," I say.

"No potato bug is gonna bite me," says Hubby, in manly voice.

"Yeah, it probably did, but you're so tough Mr Potato Bug couldn't pierce your Kevlar-like skin," I say to myself, in case another bug shows up and I need his help.

Seeing Eye Dog

"Oh no!" says Hubby. "I don't know where I put my glasses. This is bothersome."

"He, he, he," I laugh.

"Are you laughing?" asks Hubby.

"Yeah, it's kind of a funny word to use," I reply.

I thought the only person still using that word was Winnie The Pooh, and even he abbreviates it to, "Oh bother."

"I'm helpless without my glasses," says Hubby. "Can you help me find them?"

"Well, I don't have my glasses on either," I say.

"I know where your glasses are," says Hubby, pointing to my nightstand. "They're right here!"

Surprisingly, at that moment I had no words.

"Now will you please help me find my glasses?" asks Hubby.

"Okay," I say.

It took me less than a minute to retrace his steps and find his glasses. We all need a little help with the obvious, sometimes. I, on the other hand, need help with finding the un-obvious.

Just a few weeks ago, I begged Hubby to help me find my bluetoof headset I lost somewhere in my car, months ago. I had searched for it twice, emptying my car completely both times.

Ugh.

Hubby of course found my headset in less than five minutes.

"You're amazing!" I say. "Where did you find it?"

"It slipped into the hole where you buckle your seat belt," says Hubby.

All this time I though my car had some sort of black hole. Now, if only he would find my BLACK MP3 PLAYER.

Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay

Tweet This

"Guess who's singing this song?" asks Hubby. "And don't look."

"Tracey Chapman?" I guess.

"No," replies Hubby.

"Really?" I ask certain I'm right.

"Nope," says Hubby.

"Beyonce?" I ask.

"No," says Hubby.

"Is she black or white?" I ask.

"White," says Hubby.

"Hmmmmmmm, Fergie?" I ask.

"No," says Hubby totally delighted I'm stumped.

I couldn't think of anymore white girls who sound black, so I guess his new favorite artist. I'm sure he has a little crush on my next guess.

"Have we seen her in concert?" I ask.

"Yep," says Hubby.

"That's Sara Bareilles?!" I ask. "Wow, I'm impressed."

"She's awesome," says Hubby swooning.

See, Internet I told you he has a crush on her. But it's okay because I do, too.

Bareilles's voice is pretty as a bird's in this cover of "Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay," originally by Otis Redding. Bareilles may be white, but she's channeling some sweet soul in this video.

In 1967, Redding died only three days after recording the song, in a plane crash, at the tender age of 26. The song went on to become a number 1 hit. Maybe his spirit was aiding Bareilles in some way........

Enjoy :)

How I Met Your Mother

Tweet This

19 Years Ago, Today.

There was this really cute guy sitting across from me in traffic school. Every chance I got I would stare at him, which was every time the instructor walked in front or stood near him, so I wouldn't be obvious.

I could see him staring back at me, out of the corner of my eye. I totally thought he was going to talk to me at break, but he didn't.

Same thing for lunch. But at the end of the day, when class was over, and I was walking to my car, he finally spoke to me

"Do you think it's going to rain?" he asks.

"Not really, since there isn't a cloud in the sky," I say.

People have said stranger things to me. Besides, he was REALLY cute. We continued to chat as he walked me to my car. We asked each other important questions.

"Do you surf?" I ask.

"Yes, I'm just starting," he answers.

And like every woman I tell myself, "okay then this guy definitely has potential."

Do you have a boyfriend," he asks.

"Yes, but I'm sort of codependent," I answer.

And like every man, he tells himself, "I have a chance."

When he asks for my number, I hand him my business card, and we say goodbye.

One day passes, no phone call. Second day passes, same thing.

But when I got to work on Monday there were a dozen red roses waiting for me, with a note asking, "How co-dependent are you?"

Nineteen years later, our partnership is stronger and better than ever. We may stumble through life at times, but at least we are stumbling together.

He's patient with me. Who knows, someday his patience might even rub off on me. If he's lucky.

Sometimes, it seems like we met yesterday. At the same time it feels like we've known each other fifty life times.

Our relationship isn't always easy. But it isn't always hard either. Early on, we both learned a relationship is a work in progress. Good thing we're hard workers.

I wouldn't want to DO IT, and all "IT" entails, with anyone else.

I love you Honey ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Food Should Taste Good All Natural Chips Sweet Potato

Tweet This

I agree with the manufacturer.

"Food should taste good."

But, not so good that I sit in the car, eating the whole bag of chips before Hubby gets the groceries out of the car and into the house.

"Save me some," shouts Hubby, taking in another load of groceries.

"Don't worry, I knew this would happen," I say. "So, I got you your own bag."

And that worked fine for a while, but now I'm back to buying one bag and splitting it with Hubby. And by splitting I mean, I try to leave him half a bag, but it's more like a third. Or a quarter. Or maybe it's just the crumbs.

The Ring

Tweet This

"Wow, Gio, cool bracelet," I say.

"It's a ring," says Gio. "And if I take it off, it will electrify me.  Bzzzzzzzzz, see."

"Oh cool!" I say.

"You know who wears bracelets like that?" says Hubby. "Wonder Woman."

"It's not a bracelet, it's a ring," says Gio, oblivious to Hubby's blatant machismo.

All the while, "Macho Man," plays in my head.

One hour later.

"Were you trying to get him to take off the bracelet with the Wonder Woman comment?" I ask.

"No," says Hubby, obviously lying.

"Liar!" I shout.

"Okay, I was," Hubby admits quickly.

"You're so macho," I say.

"No I'm not," says Hubby.

"Okay, if you're not a flaming Macho Man Randy Savage, then wear a dress to school tomorrow," I dare.

"No way!" says Hubby. "But I'll wear a kilt........ to the Renaissance Fair."

He is going to look so hot! I can't wait!

Bad Case Of Loving You - Robert Palmer

Tweet This

"Look Boss, ze bug, ze bug!" says Hubby's Intestinal Lining.

Flu bug that is.

Hubby arrived home from the grocery store with a bottle of Pepto Bismo in hand saying, "I don't feel so good."

"Don't we already have Pepto Bismo?" I ask.

"I couldn't wait until I got home to take it," says Hubby, taking a swig.

He's been doing Pepto shots all night. It doesn't seem to be working either. I can tell every time he sprints to the toilet.

Poor guy even refused my homemade chicken broth. Wait, is it still homemade if I didn't cook the chicken? Probably at least 50% percent, right?

"Ewwwwwwwwwww," moans Hubby.

"Are you okay?" I ask.

"Uuuuuuuuuuuuugh," Hubby carries on.

It's going to be a looooooong one. It's nights like these I wish I had figured out that spare bedroom thingamabob I've been envisioning. I may have to settle for the couch.

I Killed The Weed Whacker Accidentally On Purpose

Tweet This

Today, I went outside to find my rose bush had been weed whacked by someone, and by someone I mean Hubby.

Dun, dun, dunn!

I was kind of ticked, and began plotting out text messages to him.

"How could you whack my rose bush, like that?"

No, too accusatory.

Hmmm.

"I can't believe you whacked MY rose bush! You're supposed to whack the weeds, not the roses."

Too lecturey.

Hmmmmm.

"Honey, I accidentally ran over the weed whacker. Five times.

Yeah that's good!

I sent the message, and not even a minute passed before Hubby rang my phone.

"Is the car okay?" asks Hubby.

"The weed whacker is way smaller than the car," I say.

"Is the weed whacker ruined?" asks Hubby.

"Like I said the weed whacker is way smaller than the car," I say. "It really didn't stand a chance, did it?"

"I don't understand?" asks Hubby. "How did you accidentally run over it FIVE times? Did you REALLY run it over?"

"I guess you'll find out when you get home," I say.

"Uh, okay......... " says Hubby, thinking, "gosh I knew she was a little crazy, but this is REALLY crazy?"

Now that Hubby is thoroughly confused, I must admit I feel much better, and a bit diabolical.

Foreplay

Tweet This

Trestles, Uppers, San Clemente.

Saturday morning I dropped Hubby off at the train station, and I've been single parenting ever since.

But guess what, Internet? I am leaving, to pick him up at the train station in a few minutes. My single parenting woes will be over shortly. A to the Men.

He's been sending me pictures all day, of all my favorite surfing spots along the California Coast. He really knows how to get me hot and bothered. Now that's my kind of foreplay.

I Heart My Vet

Tweet This

If someone had told me 20 years ago that I'd be married to a United States Army Veteran, I would have said, a host of things, and none of them nice.

I was fairly liberal back in my college days, and I still am. I demand love not war. When I met Hubby, not only was I un-impressed he graduated from West Point, I didn't even know what West Point was.

Though, in my mind I envisioned a reeling left- hand point break wave, peeling for miles. And I probably lost interest in the West Point topic after he answered my question of, "Any surf at West Point? " with a disappointing, "No. "

Now while I knew nothing about West Point, I have to say everyone else did. They all thought it was a pretty big deal, and this helped Hubby's courting case A LOT. People, whether I knew them or not, liked to tell me about how hard it was, "Just to get into that school!"

"He had to get recommended by a Member of Congress, you know," they would all tell me.

The notion that he might have to kill people, somehow, did not stop me from falling madly in love with Mr. Officer, who was also a fine gentlemen, indeed. I was so crazy about him I even went out in public one day wearing his sweatshirt, just to feel close to him while we were apart.

"Oh my goodness," says a lady in line at the bank. "Did your husband go to USMA (pronounced use-ma)? So did mine!"

Where would she get an idea like that I wondered? And why does she think I have a husband? (We were not married at the time.)

"No, " I say slowly. "Then I spew out, full of pride, "he went to West Point, " which I was sure had to be waaaaaay better than Use-Ma, whatever that was?

"Hmphf, " she says looking straight down her nose, shooting laser beams through her eyes. "Use-Ma IS West Point, " she says while pointing at the letters on his sweatshirt, I was wearing.

U-S-M-A. Short for United States Military Academy, pronounced Use-Ma, also known as West Point.

Oooops.

Happy Birthday Love!

Tweet This

Birthdays should fall on the weekend,  or other non-work days.   Today is Stefan's birthday, so at least he has tomorrow off.   We could totally stay up and party all night.

But we're both ready for bed,  so that's probably not going to happen.   Besides,  I'm sure King Neptune will be serving up some tasty nuggets bright and early tomorrow morning.

And. Ocean knows I wouldn't want Hubby to miss great waves the day after his birthday. It must be rough being married to a dedicated surfer girl, who's always dreaming of her next ride.

Happy birthday Stefan.  I love you!

"Honey, I didn't make you a cinnaBUN," says Hubby. "But I'll give you a bite of mine."

"I don't want a bite of your Gluten!" I say freakishly defensive.

"Do you want a bite of anything else?" asks Hubby.

He thinks his cinnaBUNs are so cute. And I suppose he's right. His cinnaBUNs are hot, like my gluten free muffins, fresh out of the oven. :P

Doin' It

Tweet This

Thirteen years ago today, we said, "I do." And fortunately, we are still doin' it.

Thank goodness, since it is one of my favorite forms of exercise. Remember that Madonna song, "sexercise my love?" Maybe that isn't how the words go, Internet, but I'm sure you get my point.

Odd, it seems like we've been together forever, yet it feels like we met just yesterday.

Marriage is the second most challenging undertaking I have chosen in this life. Anyone who says it's easy, and perfect, and all that carp is LYING.

But I love him more than ever (sob sob sob). We laugh together everyday. And I'm sure it helps that we both have yellow and violet in our auras (I also have some blue, he has some tan).

We truly are partners, who are not in the least bit threatened by gay marriage.

Perhaps, we should abolish marriage all together? Let's create a new version titled, "Partnership; working together on our perpetual work in progress."

I'm talking about civil rights here, folks. Now there's something to wave a flag over. (It's also flag day, so that was a joke, insert laughter.)

All those in favor say, "I do!"

Hubby Rocks!

Tweet This

Hubby is an AWESOME TEACHER! Congrats Love!!!!

I have to take a minute, in this post, to tell the Internet, Hubby is awesome. Not only did he win the "2010 Mildred Willemsen Award" for excellence in teaching, he's a freaky cool Husband, as well as, the BEST Dad in the UNIVERSE to our boys.

Most importantly, he can handle me. He doesn't run out the door screaming, anymore. There's never any guessing how I'm feeling, because I'm a direct, honest person. If I'm sad, or mad, I say it.

Many people find this terrifying. And maybe he's all "feel the fear and do it, anyways," but that's okay with me. He even allows himself to get mad back, now. I'm so proud of him.

When I'm in a tizzy, he always makes me laugh, most of the time. I can be myself with him, and he really gets me.

He understands surfing isn't just fun for me. Surfing is something I NEED to do everyday, as the ocean allows. The salt water cleanses my aura. Being in the water, allows me to expand, daydream and meditate.

True we aren't perfect. But who needs perfect? I just need happy. Marriage is a work in progress, and we are always "working on it." If you know me, you know that is no walk in the park. It's more like paddling out in frigid water, duck-diving a thousand pounding waves, before ever catching a ride. Sounds fun to me.

Today, is Friday, and Friday means I don't have to wake up at 6a.m. to make lunch and breakfast, like I do Monday through Thursday.

Hubby and Vinny go out to breakfast with a group of teachers every Friday. Yay, for me, ooops, I mean them.

Anyways, I do have one requirement that must be fulfilled by Hubby, before I rise from bed to make the first two meals of the day.

I. Won't. Get. Out. Of. Bed. Until. The. Coffee. Alarm. Goes. "BEEP. BEEP. BEEP."

And I don't even have to remind him to make coffee, anymore.

It is just easier to get out of bed at 6 a.m. when I know the coffee is ready for consumption. More importantly, it allows me to have Hubby and Vinny out the door by 7a.m.

My point here is that, even though Friday is my "day off," Hubby still makes coffee for me. And he still manages to be out the door around six-ish. It is a small act of kindness, but a huge to deal to me.

The little things in life make all the difference for me, and of course, so does the sex.

I heart him.
