Taj Burrow, his competitor in the final, on the other hand was painful to watch, though eventually he did pull out a decent score. Without a back up score, however, Burrow was unable to knock Slater off Cloud 9, err 10, no make that Cloud 11.
If it were a surf contest judged on one wave, instead of two, Burrow actually would have won. Burrow's highest wave score of 7.17, trumped Slater's best score of 5.93. Slater beat Burrow by just over one point. Burrow, was so close and yet so far, as usual. Poor bloke.
