As an avid reader myself, it is wonderful to see kids discover the joys of reading. My son is following in my footsteps and I'm hoping that my daughter will "click" into it soon too (fingers crossed) :)
How old is she? I am hoping for the same for Gio.
My daughter is ten. My son clicked into it when he was 9 - 10 (now 12) and he devours books now so I have hope. She tends to be the crafty/artsy type though so we'll just have to see.
There's always time to be a reader. I think a lot of it has to do with interest. Are you familiar with the theodosia book series? She might love those....
