May I Have Megan's Hand in Marriage?

I had an entirely different blog planned for today, but then I got an email, "A crowd is beginning to gather outside the state Supreme Court building in San Francisco as the court prepares to hear arguments on California's ban on same-sex marriage."

To watch the oral arguments live click here Personally, I had to turn it off, all the emotions were starting to get to me.

Separation of church and state is the foundation of this country. All people should have the same rights. Whatever your religion says is moot. We are talking about equal rights and equal protection of the law afforded by the Constitution, not whether Jesus saves or what the bible says.

Was it right to send Blacks to the back of the bus, or have separate drinking fountains and bathrooms? Some people thought it was because they believed blacks were second class citizens.

How is this issue before us today, different? It isn't. Everyone should have the right to enter into holy matrimony. Or we should all give up the right to marry.

Good luck once the right to marry is garnered. After marriage is entered by two people, the collective unconscious will be waiting with all its expectations of what marriage is and should be: when are you having a baby?, you don't like to clean and cook?, which one of you wears the pants?

Though, even with societal expectations, my husband and I have managed, with dedication and love, to create a partnership, which in my opinion, is the evolution of marriage.

May Love Be With You!
